COP 29: Azerbaijan Approves Host Country Agreement

 

On 10 October 2024, The President of Azerbaijan has promulgated a Law passed by the Parliament on approving COP29 host country agreement. This host country agreement, signed between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement (hereinafter “COP 29 Azerbaijan Host Country Agreement”) in August 2024, is now considered as ratified by the Azerbaijani Parliament (Milli Mejlis).

 

COP 29 Azerbaijan Host Country Agreement concerns the Twenty-Ninth Session of the Conference of the Parties to The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, The Nineteenth Session of the Conference of the Parties Serving As the Meeting of the Parties To The Kyoto Protocol The Sixth Session of The Conference of The Parties Serving as the Meeting of The Parties To The Paris Agreement And the Sessions of The Subsidiary Bodies.

 

By COP 29 Azerbaijan Host Country Agreement Azerbaijan undertakes to organize the COP 29 Azerbaijan event in line with the agreement terms, including ensuring conference, accommodation, transportation, medical facilities as well as safety and protection for the participants.

 

By the Presidential Decree dated 10 October 2024, COP29 President-Designate and Azerbaijan's Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources is instructed to ensure the implementation of the COP 29 Azerbaijan Host Country Agreement.
